For the first 9 months of our operations, we have received abundant good food from campus events. We have been trying to expand our movement to other events too, such as to educational institutions and weddings. Have you ever attended a wedding reception? If yes, doesn't matter if it in Chinese, Javanese, or Sundanese style, there will be plenty, and we mean PLENTY of food for the guests. You could have tried every menu but the food seems to automatically refill itself. We think that if only every happily-married couple want to donate the excessive food to the people in need, how happy they will be. Many couples actually choose to keep the excessive food and eat the same menu every day just because they don't want anyone else to have it.
But then, last night we finally found our super-kind bride and groom. Our friend, Maria Mediatrix called us and said that she wanted to give a massive excessive food from the wedding buffet to The Hunger Bank. Yey! We're so excited for our first wedding donation. We immediately picked it up and distributed them on the next day. There were more than 50 pax servings available for hungry and homeless people on the street!
It took a little bit more time than usual until we found our priority target, the homeless people. Due to the rain, they seemed to be moving from the places we usually found them. After a while, we finally found people sleeping on the streets and some in their vehicles, particularly Becak (tricycle). We found many with families today. A woman with her two children were sleeping on the sidewalk with a thin blanket to cover the three of them. Every parents want the best for their children. How ironic, we thought. There are some couples who have just started their marriage life, ready to conquer the world and raise beautiful kids of their own. Meanwhile, there are still people who are willing to do anything just to get their kids a decent meal or clothes. So here are some dollars for your thought: Turns out, getting married and having family is not easy, let alone cheap. You have to be responsible for yourself, and for your spouse and kids. Of course, it is one of the best blessing in the world, but we should be ready if worse comes to worst. These homeless mothers may be more hungry than her kids, but she never let them suffer. She rather give her meals to her children first. They could easily abandon their kids, just leave them behind, like some of the mean mothers do. But no, they survive, they love their kids, and they raise them with what they have. Have you say thank you to your mom today? Not because she gave you the latest iPhone, but because she is so kind and always prioritize her child's need before hers.
Mothers are amazing. No matter who they are.
